Types of coffee beans

Most coffee beans are two varieties of coffee: Arabica and Robusta.

Coffee Arabica

  • The Arabica beans are considered superior;
  • They are used in 70 percent of the world coffee production;
  • The Arabian coffee is indigenous to Ethiopia and Yemen;
  • It is now grown all over the world;
  • The culture of the Arabian coffee tree requires a tropical climate and 100 to 150 centimeters of rain per year;
  • It must be cultivated at an altitude of 900 meters above the level of the sea.

Robusta coffee

  • Robusta beans are considered inferior;
  • They are mainly used in the manufacture of instant coffee and ground coffee in a box;
  • Robusta coffee is usually grown for its hardiness and its ability to grow in places where Arabica coffee does not grow;
  • It is native to Africa, but is mostly grown in Brazil, Vietnam, and Africa;
  • Its cultivation requires a tropical climate, but it can grow to any altitude.

Features coffee beans

Coffee infusions do not all taste the same. Here are some terms you will see when you shop your coffee beans:

  • Green coffee beans: beans that have not been roasted. They, therefore, contain higher levels of chlorogenic acid, an organic acid that may have beneficial effects in people with heart disease or diabetes.
  • Kona Coffee: Kona coffee is grown on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is one of the most expensive coffees in the world.
  • Fair Trade coffee: it is produced according to very specific standards for the implementation of sustainable agricultural practices and fair trade relations for farmers. The label of “fair trade” also prohibits child labor.
  • Decaffeinated coffee: the beverage of choice for people who love coffee, but who do not appreciate the energy boost that comes with it. Decaffeination occurs when unroasted green coffee beans are boiled and rinsed with a solvent.
  • Organic coffee: the organic coffee producers grow grains without chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which promote environmental conservation. Many feel that the taste of the coffee is the best.

Factors to consider when buying coffee beans

Before becoming a coffee connoisseur, you should learn more about the regions where it is grown and on regional flavors.

  • If you prefer a bright flavor with a fruity nuance, you will opt for beans grown in Kenya.
  • Cultivated in Indonesia grains are perfect for a bold infusion in earthy taste.
  • The beans grown in Brazil produce a gentle infusion nutty.
  • Grains grown British produce a rich and pure infusion with character.

How the beans are roasted also paramount. Among the types of roasting, we find:

  • American roast: Coffee produces a medium roast that has a flavor neither too strong nor too soft.
  • T the French rarefaction: produces a highly roasted coffee which has a very strong flavor.
  • The Italian rarefaction t: it is mainly used for the preparation of drinks bodied espresso base.
