The most powerful smartphone on the market is not free of defects. The OnePlus 5 is an excellent phone. However, some bugs and the relatively low quality of his camera come to tarnish the picture.
Should we be tempted by the new OnePlus 5? Offered at the price of 499 dollars with 6 GB of Ram or 559 dollars with 8 GB, the OnePlus 5 is an excellent smartphone close to perfection. Its performance (it is the most powerful now) and its autonomy compensate the poor quality of the photos in low luminosity and the perfectible sound.
A very (too?) Design close to the iPhone 7
Externally, the OnePlus 5 is very close to the iPhone 7 Plus but it does not benefit from the IP67 certification – even if in fact it resists water. At the back, we really find the iPhone 7 Plus for the camera and the microphone.
The set is practical and pleasant to look with a matt coating and a curved shell. The Super AMOLED Full HD 5.5 inch screen offers a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, with beautiful and faithful colors.

Design OnePlus 5
A very attractive technical sheet
The main features of this model allow it to compete with the best smartphones. The OnePlus 5 embeds Oxygen OS 4.5.0 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The interface is purified with application drawers.
Different customization options and quick actions are available. There remains a problem of “jelly effect”, a visible buckling at times due to a reversal of the internal arrangement of the components.
Inside, the OnePlus 5 boards the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with 6 or 8 GB of RAM. UFS 2.1 storage is the fastest currently for internal memory. The power is at the rendezvous and the fluidity is excellent. The 8 GB version is even the most powerful on the market today. Even the ceramic cavity sensor is extremely reactive and efficient.
The camera, the weak point of OnePlus 5
At the rear of the camera, there are two sensors, one Sony 16 megapixels, and another 20 megapixels. The result is quality but when it really is very dark, the picture is almost illegible. Same observation in the front with the sensor of 16 Mpx.
For videos, if the OnePlus 5 is capable of filming in 4K, it is better to choose the Full HD mode in order to enjoy an excellent electronic stabilization.
A very satisfactory autonomy
The 3,300-mAh battery holds nearly 24 hours, an excellent score even in intensive use. Last but not least: the supplied Dash Charge charger allows you to recharge to 50% in 25 minutes and a full recharge in less than an hour and a half.
In the end, the OnePlus 5 lives up to what was expected of him. We can regret the few bugs reported here and there or – and especially – the weakness of the camera at nightfall. Overall, here is probably one of the best quality-price ratios on the market.
